    South Korea strengthens environmental safety management on Japanese waste plastic imports

    The South Korean government announced on the 16th that it will strengthen import controls on three types of Japanese garba.


    According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment said on the 16th that in view of the national concern about the radiation of imported waste, it will strengthen environmental safety management for waste items with a large amount of imports, including strengthening the management of waste batteries, waste tires and waste imported from Jap.

    The Ministry of Environment of South Korea pointed out that in 2018, the import volume of reusable waste was 54 million tons, which was as high as 15 times the export volu.


    In terms of quantity, among the recyclable waste imported by South Korea in 2018, fly ash accounted for 27 million tons, accounting for the largest proportion, followed by 470,000 tons of waste batteries, 240,000 tons of waste tires and 170,000 tons of waste plasti.

    In terms of items, in 2018, South Korea imported 143,000 tons of waste batteries from the United States, 71,000 tons from Japan, and 69,000 tons from the United Arab Emirates; 106,000 tons of waste tires were imported from Australia, 72,000 tons from the United States, and 72,000 tons from Ita.


    According to the report, the Ministry of Environment of South Korea plans to make the authenticity check of the checklist of reusable waste radioactive substances (Cs-134, Cs-137, I-131) and the heavy metal composition analysis table, and the on-site inspection of importing enterprises by quarterly inspecti.
