The South Korean government recently said that South Korea will close 30 coal-fired power plants by 2034 and integrate more solar and wind energy resources into the energy system in the next five years to achieve emission reduction targets
.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in made the announcement in a speech on September 8, saying the government would shut down 10 of those coal-fired power plants
by the end of 2022.
At the same time, he also called for the phase-out of nuclear power

Currently, South Korea has about 60 coal-fired power plants in operation, generating about 40%
of the country's total electricity.
Over the past three years, the country has imposed temporary shutdowns on more than 30-year-old power plants, including the idle use of about half of its coal-fired units earlier this year to reduce air pollution

By 2025, the number of solar and wind power installations installed in South Korea will more than
triple from the number installed in 2019.
The country will also provide incentives to increase the number of electric vehicles on the road to 1.
