South Korea will receive the first batch of Russian condensate
from Novatek's newly developed Yamal LNG project this month, Reuters reported in Moscow, Dec.
5.
Currently, South Korea is looking for alternatives to Iran's LNG, which are complicated
by U.
S.
sanctions.
Yamal condensate is a light oil produced alongside liquefied natural gas (LNG), and Asian customers are looking to increase purchases
in the petrochemical industry.
Traders expect demand for condensate to rise in 2020 as it will allow refiners to produce low-sulphur fuels – a crucial
one given upcoming shipping regulations.
South Korea's Hanwha Total Petrochemical Co.
will receive 74,000 mt of Yamal condensate
in mid-December, traders said.
According to Refinitiv Eikon, the STI Veneto ship will arrive at the port
of Dashan on December 13.
"The company has purchased 74,000 tonnes of Yamal condensate, which will arrive in December," a Hanwha Total Petrochemical spokesman told Reuters, adding that future purchases of condensate from Russia would depend on market conditions
