It should not be surprising that astronauts turn to various drugs to relieve symptoms caused by microgravity

Recently, in order to clarify this problem, a group of scientists from Beijing Institute of Technology studied the effect of microgravity on p-glycoprotein (P-gp), which is an important efflux transporter

P-glycoprotein is an atp-dependent efflux pump that can expel foreign bodies from cells

The researchers used a commonly used model to understand the effect of simulated microgravity (SMG) on P-gp in rats

The team first conducted experiments to determine the expression level of P-gp and the efflux function of P-gp

Considering that most astronauts report taking drugs with P-gp substrates, it may be necessary to clarify the role of P-gp and its interacting proteins in a microgravity environment in order to maintain their health in future missions.

There are still many questions to be clarified about how long-term microgravity affects our bodies
