Spain's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation (Ministerio de Asuntos Economicos y Transformacion Digital) has confirmed that the government's planned 700MHz auction will begin on July 21, with prospective bidders asking for registration
by July 2.
According to reports, this round will bid for a total of seven concessions, divided into two 2×10MHz frequency bands, two 2×5MHz frequency bands and three 1×5MHz frequency bands (downlink only).
All licenses are valid for 20 years, but can be extended for another 20 years
.
It is reported that this round of auctions, which has been delayed several times due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is the next step
in the management and planning of 5G radio spectrum as defined in Spain's National 5G Plan, following the auction of 3.

However, in order to avoid a repeat of the operator's sluggish reaction to the February auction, when Telefonica and Orange were the only operators to bid and both acquired their 10 MHz lot at a reserve price (21 million euros), the government decided to improve conditions to encourage bidding

Compared to the starting price listed last year, depending on the frequency band offered, the starting price decreased by 12.
