Researchers at the Berghofer Institute of Medicine in Australia report in the new issue of the International Journal of Cancer that they analyzed pregnancy data from 30 studies around the world, including nearly 17,000 women with endometrial cancer and nearly 40,000 women who had never had the disease.
Statistics show that every additional full-month pregnancy reduces a woman's risk of endometrial cancer by about 15 percent over a certain number of pregnancies;
researchers believe the study means higher progesterone levels in the late stages of pregnancy, as well as some physiological changes in women who are pregnant for less than a full month, may help reduce their risk of endometrial cancer.
said further exploration of the protective effects reflected in the study was needed to identify key factors that reduce the risk of endometrial cancer and help fight it.
