On the 31st local time, WHO convened an emergency committee to assess the situation of the new crown pneumonia outbreak and provide recommendations.
WHO Director-General, Mr Tandese, said the new crown pneumonia pandemic was a once-in-a-century health crisis whose effects would last for decades.
Tandesse noted that there are still many questions to be answered, and serological studies show that most people around the world are still susceptible, even in areas where they have experienced severe outbreaks, where new outbreaks have emerged in many countries, and some countries that were initially less affected are now beginning to see a rise in diagnoses and deaths, and some countries have contained large-scale outbreaks.
Tandesey stressed that while vaccine development is proceeding at a record pace, there is still a need to learn to coexist with the virus and use existing tools to combat the outbreak.
