Teijin and Australian company AEV Robotics have signed a joint development agreement whereby both parties will develop the underlying technology for the envisaged vehicle during the first two years of the initiati.
The components will feature innovative structural designs using Teijin's advanced materials, such as polycarbonate resins, carbon fibers and aramid fibers, as well as composite materials technologies owned by Teijin and its subsidiaries, including Continental Structural Plasti.
Teijin will also provide expertise in thermal management (to optimize weight reduction and thermal insulation) and sound absorption, and will apply its expertise developed to support the Nihon Kogakuin University solar team in the world's largest solar car ra.
AEV Robotics' modular vehicle system will be the basis for the de facto standard for next-generation vehicles to meet the "zero emissions from well to wheel" target set by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Indust.
AEV Robotics is also developing an efficient electric vehicle platform and autonomous driving systems that enable low-speed electric vehicle applications in various fields, such as medical, logistics and industrial, as well as general transportati.
Through this joint development project, Teijin hopes to continue striving to become a company that can support the society of the future, especially by providing new solutions for automotive applications based on advanced materials and the structural design required for next-generation electric vehicl.
In recent years, next-generation vehicle concepts based on connected, autonomous, shared and electric vehicles have led to the rapid development of electric vehicles as a practical solution to reduce environmental lo.
Furthermore, the role of the car is changing with the concept of mobility as a service (thinking of transportation as a holistic servic.
At the same time, rapidly ageing societies are facing increasing problems, including traffic accidents caused by the elderly in urban areas and vulnerable pedestrians in rural areas, as well as problems caused by traffic congestion, environmental degradation and advancing urbanizati.
To this end, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan has launched the New Automobile Era Strategy Committee, which aims to enhance the global competitiveness of the Japanese automobile indust.
The ministry has made "zero emissions from well to wheel" a long-term national strategy to ensure Japan achieves the world's highest level of environmental performance by 2050, including green processes for producing gasoline and power for vehicl.
