Telecommunications company Vodafone has shrunk its standard credit card-sized SIM sleeves by 50 per cent to reduce the amount of plastic used
.
By the end of December 2019, Vodafone will start offering a range of eco-friendly accessories under the red, love and green label
.
The range includes 100% biodegradable or recyclable phone cases made from ocean plastic, shared power banks using eco-friendly materials and plastic-free packaging
.
As part of the program, the company will also offer sustainable Fairphone 3 smartphones in Germany, Italy, the UK, Spain and Ireland
.
The launch of the new product range is part of Vodafone's strategy to reduce the use of non-essential plastics
.
Joakim Reiter, Director of External Affairs at Vodafone, said: “Having our environmental impact in half means not only addressing material issues such as our carbon footprint and e-waste, but also taking action in other areas where we have an impact, such as our retail footprint.
Non-essential or single-use plastic items used in stores and offices”
.
It is reported that Vodafone will gradually eliminate the use of credit card-sized SIM card sleeves in 24 markets around the world
