On September 15, Tesla Motors announced that it will supply 20MW/80MWhPower pack systems
to the Edison Mira Loma substation in Southern California.
In October 2015, a large-scale natural gas leak occurred in California
, USA, due to natural gas storage equipment.
California's governor issues a declaration
of emergency.
In May 2016, the California Public Utilities Commission ordered that methods of
energy storage be confirmed as soon as possible.
Since then, electric utilities, including Edison of Southern California, have accepted applications
to secure practical large-scale storage by the end of December 2016.
Tesla decided to contract the power company's storage project
.
Tesla's storage system will be the largest lithium-ion battery storage project
on the ground.
It is reported that if the system is fully charged, it can provide 2,500 households with electricity
consumption for a day.
In addition, it can charge 1,000 Tesla vehicles
.
Tesla explained that if the processing plant has large-scale production capacity, the production, transportation, set-up and delivery of this system can be completed
in three months.
The system uses electricity from the grid to be charged during the Off Peak period and transmitted at peak times to provide electricity to 15 million people and support infrastructure development in Southern California
.
To this end, the Tesla Power pack system can also reduce the demand for electricity generated by power generation through natural gas, promoting the solid development
of the modern power grid.
Tesla issued a comment that it will cooperate with Southern California, and the Tesla Power pack system will become an epoch-making project
for the new era of power grid programming.
