Recently, researchers have proposed a model of adsorption lag in hardened cement slurry.
in hardened cement slurry (CSH gel), water inserted between the CSH layers can be adsorbed and desorbed by changing the relative humidity. Adsorption in the mezzanine space between CSH plates is considered to be the cause of the low pressure lag of the water absorption isosphere
. In addition, large hysteresis return lines appear in charts that show how the paste changes volume with humidity.
hysteresis in the adsorption and volume change map
contrary to most other porous solids, the volume of the CSH gel in the desorption branch (drying) is greater than the volume in the adsorption branch (re-wetting). Based on the macro approach, the researchers used a simple model to describe hysteresis in adsorption and volume change maps. The calculated hysteresis return line depends on the horizontal extension of inter-layer space, similar to the return line observed in the experiment.
the study was published in Volume 123 of the Cement and Concrete Study, September 2019, 105760.
