1 The concept of supercritical water
Any substance, with the change of temperature and pressure, will correspondingly present three phase states of solid, liquid and gas, the so-called three states of matter
.
The temperature and pressure values that convert between the three states are called the triple point
Figure 2-1 Phase diagram of water
Table 2-1 Comparison of properties of supercritical fluid and normal gas and liquid
For example, the solubility of supercritical water for oils, organics, carbon dioxide and other gases increases, and they dissolve each other, and even form a homogeneous phase; supercritical water only changes the pressure at a constant temperature, and it changes from ionic reaction to free radical reaction.
The best reaction solvent, and supercritical water itself participates in the free radical reaction process.
Because of this, supercritical water is quite attractive as a reaction medium for oxidation reactions, thermal decomposition reactions, and hydrolysis reactions of many organic substances
