JDR Cable Systems, a global submarine cable supplier and service provider, recently said that the construction of a state-of-the-art submarine cable manufacturing facility near Blythe, Northumberland, England
, officially began.
The new plant, covering an area of 69,000 square metres and costing around £130 million, will provide the offshore wind market with vital submarine cable manufacturing technology
.
Currently, 171 jobs
will be created locally during the construction phase of the project.
According to the plan, the new plant will be put into operation
in 2024.
When completed, it will be the only production base in the UK capable of enabling the full chain of submarine high-voltage cables for offshore wind to support the growing global renewable energy market
