RenewableUK, a British renewable energy agency, recently announced that the total pipeline capacity of onshore wind projects in operation, under construction, agreed or planned in the UK has grown to nearly 33GW.
A year ago, the total pipeline capacity was 30GW.
From 2025, a significant increase
in deployments can be seen.
If every project in the current pipeline continues, the UK's onshore wind operating capacity will reach 30GW by 2030, more than
double the UK's current operating capacity of 13.

33GW of onshore wind capacity will power more than 21 million homes throughout the year and play an important role
in decarbonising the UK's electricity system.
Earlier this month, RenewableUK published an onshore wind prospectus that showed that doubling the UK's onshore wind capacity would reduce consumer spending by £16.
3 billion over the decade – saving £25 per household a year

It will also generate £45bn of economic activity and create 27,000 full-time jobs
.
70% believe that local planning systems should encourage the construction of onshore wind projects

However, the prospectus also shows that the UK's current agreed annual capacity is less than half of
what is needed to set the 2035 35GW target set by the Climate Change Commission.
Just over 600 MW of capacity per year has been approved, and to meet the target, the UK should reach 1,250 MW per year to keep up and running

Dan McGrail, chief executive of RenewableUK, said: "The government's new net-zero strategy specifically calls for the installation of more onshore wind over this decade to help the UK be fully powered
by clean electricity by 2035.
