The death of academician Kong Xiangfu has long been engaged in functional genomics research

, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Kong Xiangfu, a non-partisan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at the Chinese People's Liberation Army Army Military Medical University, died in Chongqing at 11:10 p.m. on June 17, 2019 at the age of 76.
Kong Xiangfu, born in Chongqing on September 4, 1942, graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine with a Ph.D. in 1969. He has worked at Roche Molecular Biology Institute (USA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Hospital, Army Medical University, etc. He was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999.
Kong Xiangfu has long been engaged in functional genomics, applied histology research and human gene therapy. In 1981, he developed the world's first α-interferon for clinical treatment, patented for invention and approved for clinical use by the U.β S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA);
Kong Xiangfu has received numerous honors and awards, including the NIH Outstanding Laboratory Director Award in 1997, the NIH Outstanding Achievement Award in 1998, the National Science and Technology Progress First Prize in 2012 and the Chongqing Chief Medical Specialist in 2017. A total of more than 500 SCI papers published, published 15 monographs, won 19 international patents.
