Recently, the Chen Yong team from the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences proposed an electrocatalytic reforming of waste PET to convert waste PET into sodium terephthalate, sodium oxalate and hydrogen with high economic added value

It is estimated that the economic benefit of electrocatalytic reforming of 1 ton of waste PET is more than 5,000 yuan, while the economic benefit of recycling 1 ton of PET by mechanical method is 100-400 yuan

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is chemically stable and has a degradation cycle of 200-400 years in the natural environment.
