According to SeafoodNews on November 22, Julio José Prado, Ecuador's Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries, said that the EU will conduct a new review
of the "yellow card" of capture fisheries and shrimp products from Ecuador in the last two weeks of this month.

Ecuador issued a "yellow card" in October 2019 to improve the management of its IUU fishing industry and the traceability of its exports, which Julio José Prado said was a disaster
for the country's shrimp and fishing industry, especially tuna.

Julio José Prado pointed out that we are in the final stages of getting rid of this card and we will receive a review report from the EU in two weeks, hoping that this year it will be resolved
    .

The fishing and shrimp industries account for nearly 8% of Ecuador's gross domestic product (GDP) and exports exceed $8 billion
    .

While the "yellow card" does not prevent Ecuador from exporting these products to the 27 countries of the European Union, it is a wake-up call for Ecuador's fishing industry to make the necessary reforms to meet EU standards
before the ban is finally lifted.

In the first eight months of this year, Ecuadorian shrimp exports to the EU reached US$747 million, up 16.
    9%
    year-on-year.
