The European Union has agreed to provide 40 million euros in subsidies
for the power interconnection system connecting Moldova and Romania.
According to reports, this money will be used to build a 600 MW substation, which is the responsibility
of the Moldovan Electricity Company.
For the power interconnection, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank have provided a loan of 160 million euros, and the World Bank has committed a loan of $
70 million.
The funds will also support the construction of 400 kV high-voltage overhead lines in the Moldovan capital and surrounding cities, as well as the expansion and upgrading of related substations

At present, Moldova relies heavily on oil, coal and natural gas for power generation, as well as imported electricity from Ukraine, which accounts for up to 80%.
According to the plan, the Moldovan-Romanian power grid interconnection system will be completed in 2024, which will greatly improve the stability and reliability
of Moldova's electricity supply.
