The eight European Union (EU) member states, led by Lithuania, urged the European Commission (EC) to promote renewable energy and take steps to promote local manufacturing
of wind, solar power and storage projects.
In addition to Lithuania, the countries supporting the initiative are Austria, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland and Spain

In a letter to European Commissioners Thierry Breton and Kadri Simson, they asked the EC to ensure that wind and solar production and storage technologies are integrated into the EU's strategic value chain

Lithuanian Energy Minister Zygimantas Vaiciunas said: "We propose to integrate solar and wind energy technologies into the most important value chains for European development and to increase investment
in them by creating competitive high value-added green energy industries.

According to eight member states, the EU alone will invest €2 trillion in wind and solar energy over the next 30 years
.
One specific area that needs to be developed faster is offshore wind, especially floating structures
, they said.
This technology is needed to achieve 450 GW of offshore wind capacity
by 2050.
In addition, the eight countries urged the EC to establish a renewable energy industry alliance and to take measures
such as giving priority to renewable energy in the allocation of EU funds.
Strategic measures on renewable energy will not only help combat climate change, including achieving climate neutrality by 2050, but will also boost the EU economy
