Egypt plans to provide specific loans to the state-owned transmission system operator Egypt Transmission Company (EETC) to finance the construction and upgrading
of five high-voltage substations in Upper Egypt, Sidar, Cairo and Alexandria.
According to the EBRD website, the project will facilitate the integration of at least 450 MW of renewable energy capacity into Egypt's electricity system, while helping to reduce transmission losses
.
The five substations are El Sadat (500 kV) and Shebeen El Koum (500 kV) in Manufia Governorate, New Atfi (500 kV) in southern Cairo, West Mallawy (500 kV) in Upper Egypt and Abo Talaat (220 kV)
in Alexandria Governorate.
