    European research network GEANT and its Latin American counterpart, RedCLARA, have signed an Inalienable Rights Contract (IRU) for the EllaLink (formerly EulaLink)
    submarine cable system.

    The EllaLink submarine cable is designed to provide the first submarine system
    to enable cable connectivity directly in Europe and Latin America.

    It is reported that this submarine cable is expected to be put into use
    in late 2020.

    According to current plans, EllaLink will bring 72Tbps connectivity
    to two continents.
    EllaLink is 10,119 km long and will land on the Praia Grande River near Cines in Portugal and São Paulo in Brazil, with feeder lines extending to Fortaleza, Brazil, Madeira Islands in Portugal and Cape
    Verde.

    Brazil's state-owned telecommunications infrastructure provider Telebras will hold a 35 percent stake in the company, while Spain's IslaLink will hold a 45 percent stake
