    September 27-28, the first plenary meeting of the revised Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2016) was successfully held at the Xiangshan Hotel in Beijing. More than 40 experts from nine work teams from across the country participated in the two-day meeting. Representatives of the various work teams reported on the progress of the work, proposed amendments, listened to experts present and had extensive and in-depth discussions.

Professor Yang Yuxin stressed that the dietary guidelines are based on the nutritional needs and health interests of the general public, to achieve a "balanced dietary model" as the core guiding ideology, based on the latest scientific evidence of the relationship between food and health, taking into account China's national policy of nutritional improvement and sustainable development of human health, giving priority to China's public nutrition and outstanding dietary behavior common problems. The revision of dietary guidelines should pay special attention to food-based, practical guidance content attaches great importance to practicality and operability.
