    The Hypothesis of "Complex Reticular Origin" of China's Mainly Planted Edible Roses by Kunming Institute of Botany

    The research group of "Plant Molecular Genetics and Adaptation" of Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences focuses on the diversity, mechanism and evolution of plant flowering habit and interaction mode between plants and the environment .


     

    The results showed that there may be 6 wild species as the female parent involved in the formation of the main edible rose germplasm in China


     

    A fine typing study based on ITS1/2 of the ribosomal rDNA region found that at least 9 wild species were involved in the formation of the existing main edible rose varieties, and wild rose, 'Damask' and French rose were involved in the formation of multiple edible rose varieties.


     

    The team also found that only 'Golden Rose' and 'Mohong Rose' had continuous flowering habit among the existing main germplasms, while YN01 , YN02 , 'Shangshui Rose', 'Dingtao Rose' and 'Purple Branch Rose' had the occasional blooming habit.


     

    The research results were published online in Horticulture Research , a top horticultural journal, under the title of "Complex and reticulate origin of edible roses ( Rosa , Rosaceae) in China" .
