Advisor Raad Al Haris spoke this week at the Arab World Energy Transition Conference in Berlin

Al Haris did not provide a specific date for the tender, but said the new procurement, as well as the 750 MW solar tender project launched in May, will be completed
within two years.
The Prime Minister's adviser said the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity had recently prequalified 45 bidders in the current procurement exercise, adding that bids
were being issued.
The authorities want to build two solar parks with a capacity of 300 MW and 225 MW, as well as five smaller projects
ranging in size from 30 MW to 50 MW.
The Iraqi government said in May it expected the projects to be the country's first attempt to diversify its energy mix and would be operational
by the end of next year.
Iraq began taking its first steps in January, when the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) began looking for consultants to help develop a national PV policy
.
UNDP is helping the Ministry of Electricity deploy utility-scale solar power plants and 5 MW of residential photovoltaics
.
In 2017, Iraq's installed capacity was mainly fossil fuels, with an installed capacity of about 11.
3 GW, while demand is estimated at 17 GW
