    According to a paper recently published in the journal Nature, a research team from China, Germany, and the United States has developed a method for making diamonds that are not fragile, creating a new form of diamond-subcrystalline diamond


    Previous studies have shown that diamond is the hardest material known, but it is very brittle and easily cut or even shattered


    The current method of making diamonds is to place carbon-based materials in a vise-like device, heat it to a very high temperature, and squeeze it hard


    The researchers heated the material to between 900°C and 1300°C under a pressure of 27-30 gigapascals (GPa)


    The researchers used electron microscopes to observe the structure of the diamonds produced, and performed X-ray diffraction and atomic modeling of the samples


    Unlike another newly synthesized diamond that is relatively unbreakable, the diamond produced this time is a subcrystalline diamond
