    Acer palmatum Thunb.
is a woody ornamental plant of the maple family, and China is the origin and modern distribution center of maple plants, and the germplasm resources are extremely rich
    .
Due to its rich seasonal phase changes and beautiful morphology, Maple has become an extremely important ornamental color leaf tree species in China, and is widely used in
    garden landscape and urban greening.
Compared with Japan, Europe and the United States, China's maple breeding and research started late, and in-depth research
needs to be carried out in ornamental and resistance breeding.

The maple team of the Leisure Institute has long been engaged in the collection, evaluation and analysis of the mechanism of important traits of maple plant resources, and has recently made important progress
in the leaf color and cold resistance of maple in chicken feet.
In the study of the leaf color of maple chinensis, the new varieties of maple selected by the team 'Jinling Yellow Maple' and 'Jinling Danfeng' were used as the test materials, and the content of chlorophyll, carotenoids and anthocyanins in the leaves of these two varieties in spring and summer was detected, and a series of key genes
related to the leaf color of Maple chinensis were excavated by combining transcriptome sequencing analysis and gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA).
This study provides new insights into the molecular mechanism of leaf color change of Maple chinensis, which is helpful for the cultivation of new germplasm
of Maple with different leaf colors.
The results were published in BMC Plant Biology (JCR Zone I, IF: 5.
    26)
under the title Transcriptome profiling provides insights into leaf color changes in two Acer palmatum genotypes.

Low temperature not only seriously affects the wintering of maple in northern land, restricts its planting and promotion to the north of the Yellow River, but also affects the synthesis and accumulation of anthocyanins, which in turn affects the discoloration
    of maple leaves.
Using the self-selected new variety of Acer 'Jinling Huang Maple' as the experimental material, the team found the key differential gene ApMYB77 from the cold-stressed transcriptome, and further found that ApMYB77 subcells were localized to the nucleus and had no transcriptional activation activity
    .
Transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana superexpressing ApMYB77 was more
resistant to frost and drought than wild-type.
This study provides an excellent genetic reserve
for the breeding of cold- and drought-tolerant maples.
The results of the study are based on An Acer palmatum R2R3? MYB gene, ApMYB77, confers freezing and drought tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana was published in the Journal of Plant Growth Regulation (JCR Zone I, IF: 4.
    64).

The above two research papers published successively, team member Zhu Lu is the first author, team leader researcher Li Qianzhong is the corresponding author, and the Institute of Leisure Agriculture of Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences is the first to complete
    .
    The research work was supported
by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province and the Independent Innovation Fund of Jiangsu Province.
