As the environment continues to deteriorate, the rice production process is threatened by a variety of adversities, among which salinization and drought are important factors that cause its production to decrease

Recently, the team of Professor Zhu Yonghua from the School of Biology of Hunan University published a research paper online in Acta Agronomica Sinica (English Edition), reporting that an endophytic actinomycete Streptomyces albidoflavus OsiLf-2 isolated and obtained by the team can improve the drought resistance and salt tolerance of rice.

Researchers have confirmed in greenhouse and field experiments that OsiLf-2 can not only improve the drought resistance and salt tolerance of rice seedlings, but also effectively reduce the adverse effects of saline soil on rice yield

Studies have found that OsiLf-2 is a moderately salt-tolerant bacteria that can produce abundant osmotic adjustment substances, such as proline and tetrahydropyrimidine

The above results indicate that in addition to producing proline and tetrahydropyrimidine in the host, OsiLf-2 can also induce rice to synthesize a large amount of osmo-adjusting substances, thereby enhancing the host's tolerance to drought and salt stress

In addition, OsiLf-2 can also induce rice stress response and ion transport related gene expression levels, increase the activity of rice antioxidant system related enzymes, promote chlorophyll synthesis, enhance photosynthesis efficiency, and ultimately improve the host's survival under adversity conditions.
