The mechanism of manipulating a single miRNA to improve multiple traits in rice revealed |
Rice is one of the most important food crops in the world.
Recently, the team of Professor Wang Wenming from Sichuan Agricultural University published a research paper online in Nature-Plants, which not only revealed the mechanism of miR168-AOG1 regulating rice yield, growth period and rice blast resistance, but also improved rice resistance to rice blast at the same time.
Wang Wenming’s team found that Osa-miR168 (miR168) responds to Magnaporthe grisea infection.
The changes in miR168-AGO1 regulatory signals composed of miR168 and AGO1 lead to changes in the regulatory signals of multiple miRNA-target genes, and these miRNA-target gene regulatory signals regulate the immunity and growth of rice respectively.
