    The molecular mechanism of rice endosperm development regulation is revealed

    endosperm is the main component of rice and an important food source for human beings. It is of great practical significance and theoretical value to study rice endosperm to improve rice yield and quality improvement.
    Recently, the crop functional genomics research and innovation team of the Crop Science Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences cloned the new gene FLO10 for rice endosperm development, expounded the molecular mechanism of FLO10 gene to regulate rice endosperm development from the cellular and genetic level, and laid a genetic and material foundation for the molecular improvement of rice quality. The findings were published online in The New Botanist.
    team identified flo10, a rice endosperm developmental defect mutant, in which starch particles become smaller and the paste powder layer has abnormal cellular structure. The researchers confirmed that the FLO10 gene encodes a mitochondrial-located PPR protein through experiments such as map cloning, genetically modified complementary and knock-off. Mutations in the FLO10 gene cause the mitochondrial gene nad1 1st inclusion to not be properly clipped and to accumulate abnormally in the form of clipping preses.
    further analysis found that the assembly and activity of respiratory chain complex I in flo10 was significantly reduced, ATP synthesis decreased, and mitochondrial structure was abnormal. These results suggest that the FLO10 gene may maintain mitochondrial function and endosperm development by affecting the shearing of the 1st containing child in rice mitochondrial nad1.
