The Norwegian Food Safety Authority has released a 2021 analysis of phytotoxins in food

On 15 September 2022, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority released the 2021 Phytotoxin Analysis Report in Food
.
The Norwegian Food Safety Authority monitors and controls natural plant toxins
in food.
The purpose of the monitoring plan is mainly to monitor whether the level of phytotoxins is within the prescribed range
.
In 2021, a total of 30 samples were analyzed
for phytotoxins.
Of these, there were 10 samples
of buckwheat/buckwheat flour.
They were analyzed as toalkanoids in the form of atropine and scopolamine
.
In addition, the pyrrolizidine alkaloids
in 20 different herbal teas were also analyzed.
Atropine and scopolamine
were not detected in buckwheat.
Pyrrolixidine alkaloids were detected in 13 out of 20 herbal tea samples
.
No limit values for pyrrolicidine alkaloids in food are given in 2021
.
However, from July 1, 2022, limits
have been set for the pyrrolizidine alkaloids in tea and herbal tea.
A sample of herbal tea labeled with a breastfeeding label has a higher level of pyrrolizidine alkaloids
