Research reveals: Southeast Asian indigenous phenotypes such as short stature or the result of independent origin |
BEIJING, Kunming, April 29 (Reporter Hu voyage) reporter on the 29th from Zhong Keyuan Kunming Institute of Zoology, was informed that the joint study group SU Bing Zhong Keyuan one study Beijing Genomics Institute, Chen research group conducted It shows that the physical phenotypes such as short stature, curly hair and wide flat nose of Southeast Asian natives are the result of independent origin and parallel evolution.

There are many ancient and living indigenous people in Southeast Asia, such as Cambodian indigenous people.
Previous studies by Su Bing’s research group have shown that there are very old and unique maternal genetic lineages among the indigenous people living in the tropical rain forests of northeastern Cambodia.
The clustering relationship constructed by researchers using whole-genome data shows that Cambodian indigenous people are located at the root of the phylogenetic tree of the East Asian population, and their differences with other populations are obvious, confirming the conclusion that they are ancient populations.
At the same time, the researchers integrated the data of the African population, the Nordic population, the southern European population and the East Asian Han population, analyzed the unique selection signals of Cambodia's indigenous people, and discovered 1,187 selected genomic regions.
It is worth noting that the selected genes and their mutation sites discovered by researchers in Cambodian indigenous peoples did not enrich in African hunter-gatherers and other populations with similar phenotypes, indicating that these selected genes and their mutation sites in the indigenous people of Southeast Asia Type may be the result of independent origin and parallel evolution.
This research provides a model for exploring the evolutionary patterns and genetic mechanisms of human phenotypes.
