Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women.
recent studies have shown that transcription factor KLF5 plays an important role in the development of breast cancer; previous studies have shown that KLF5 plays a key role in the self-renewal and maintenance of breast cancer stem cells (Theranostics, 2016; 6 (4): 533-544); and other studies have shown that KLF5 plays an important role in the maintenance of embryonic stem cells, but KLF5 has not been reported in the normal stem cell and breast development process.
the Chinese Academy of Sciences Kunming Institute of Zoology Chen Zeshi team on the role of KLF5 in normal breast stem cells and breast development in-depth study. first,
, it was found that breast development in mice with breast Klf5 knockout was significantly inhibited, especially during pregnancy and lactation.
, the proportion of stem cells in the breast of breast Klf5 knockout of mammary glands decreased significantly, and the mechanism of exploration found that breast Klf5 knockout caused the expression of stem cell-related factor Sok, which decreased, which in turn led to a decrease in stem cells.
finally, using the cancer-causing model of PyMT cancer gene, it was found that breast Klf5 knockout can significantly reduce the production and growth of cancer gene-induced breast cancer.
the study not only found that transcription factor KLF5 plays an important role in the maintenance of breast stem cells and breast development, but also found that KLF5 plays a role in breast cancer, further providing new supporting evidence for the discovery of KLF5 as a target for clinical breast cancer treatment.
published in Journal of Pathology, the research was supported by the National Key Research and Development Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department.
