Original title: The research group of Professor Ma Xi from China Agricultural University published the latest research progress on antimicrobial peptide design optimization technology

The team of Professor Ma Xi from the College of Animal Science and Technology of China Agricultural University published an online review paper titled "Design, optimization, and nanotechnology of antimicrobial peptides: From exploration to applications" in the authoritative academic journal Nano Today (IF=20.

In recent years, the large-scale aquaculture industry consumes about half of China's antibiotic usage every year; at the same time, antibiotic residues and antibiotic resistance caused by the abuse of antibiotics in the aquaculture industry seriously endanger human health

Among the six known alternatives to feed antibiotics, antimicrobial peptides, as a natural source of active molecules, have broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, have a killing effect on bacteria, fungi, protozoa, etc.

However, natural antimicrobial peptides have a series of problems such as weak biological activity, high toxicity, and immature stability, which severely restrict their promotion and application in production practice

China Agricultural University is the only organization to complete the thesis.
