The aim of the new work is to compare the anti-corrosion effect of an organic coating of zinc metal containing laminated or iso-particles and to reduce the content of zinc metal in the coating while maintaining its high corrosion efficiency.
samples containing polyphenyl carbonate (PVC - 1%) and spherical zinc showed significantly lower corrosion rates than non-corroded samples.
the use of zinc in the shape of laminated particles and the application of conductive polymers to optimize and reduce zinc metal content

. Conductive polymers are expected to enhance the electrochemical effects of zinc metals in coatings. Organic coatings with laminated zinc particles also exhibit better mechanical properties. The optimization of the number of laminated zinc particles facilitates the widespread use of this material in anti-corrosion coatings. Conductive polymers used in this work include polyphenyl phosphate, polyphenylphenylate and carbonized polyphenylamine. Solvent-based epoxy resin is used as an adhesive.
    preparation model coating
prepared by the resin and contains different concentrations of polyphenyl phosphate, polyphenyl anthylate and carbonized polyphenylamine model coating. Coatings were tested at the critical pigment volume concentration (CPVC) of zinc dust and at lower zinc dust concentrations (especially 2% lower than CPVC). Coatings containing a combination of zinc and conductive polymers contain slightly less pigment than the CPVC of the zinc dust species used. For laminate zinc systems, this means (PVC Zn-lam) content is 39%, and for spherical zinc systems, this means (PVC Zn-sf) content is 61%.
    Accelerated cycle corrosion test
Pigment volume concentration (PVC) of conductive polymers in zinc-containing coatings (based on previously obtained results) was 1%, 5%, 10% and 15% in laminate zinc and 10% systems, respectively, and 15% in spherical zinc systems. Organic coatings underwent accelerated cycle corrosion testing and electrochemical measurements. Samples containing polyphenyl carbonate (PVC - 1%) and spherical zinc have a significantly lower corrosion rate than uncoated steel.
the study was published in the Journal of Coating Technology and Research, July 2019, volume 16, issue 4, pp. 949-962.
