    The official website of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance on November 17: The Agency participated in the 84th plenary meeting
    of the WTO Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) in November 2022.
     
    Prior to the meeting, SPS Committee participants discussed and agreed
    on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures for the transformation of agricultural markets in the aftermath of the pandemic, as well as food security issues.
     
    The meeting discussed more than 50 trade issues of common concern to member states, including the EU's increase in MRLs for pesticides and contaminants in products, the lack of transparency in China's SPS legislation, and India's requirements for products of animal origin
    .
     
    The Russian side expressed concern about the trade barriers of five African and Asian countries banning the import of Russian livestock products, and stressed that Russia has obtained the status of a country free of bovine spongiform encephalopathy by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE); With regard to the issue of food trade, Russia pointed out that the political pressure of certain Western countries directly violates the obligations of WTO members and endangers the food security
    of backward countries in the world.
