The share of renewable energy in the EU reached 22% in 2020, exceeding the target

The latest data from Eurostat shows that by 2020, the EU increased the share of renewable energy in total final energy consumption to 22%, exceeding the target by two percentage points

for the past year last week.
The data shows wider adoption of wind, solar and other renewable energy technologies in the EU, with 26 of the 27 member states meeting or exceeding national targets
.
France was the only exception, lagging behind its target
with a share of 19.
1%.
The country has pledged to increase the share of renewable energy in total final energy consumption to 23%
by 2020.

The best performer in 2020 was Sweden, with a renewable energy share of 60.
1%, 11 percentage points
above its own renewable energy target of 49%.
In Finland and Latvia, 43.

1% of final energy consumption come from renewable sources
, respectively.

Meanwhile, Malta, Luxembourg and Belgium had the lowest share of renewable energy consumption in 2020, at 11%, 12% and 13%
respectively.

With the exception of Sweden, Croatia and Bulgaria both exceeded their national targets

While Croatia targeted a 20% share, it achieved 31% at the end of 2020, while Bulgaria reached 23.

The Netherlands, Belgium and Slovenia achieved the target of 25% of their total final energy consumption from renewable energy by 2020, meeting the national target
