WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Individual differences in "planned" personality traits can lead to differences in people's behavior in real life, a new U.S. study found. Those who are good at setting specific plans for long-term goals do a better job of sticking to physical exercise than those who don't have a plan. The findings were published recently in the Journal of Psychology of the American Psychological Association.
psychology, there are five traits that can cover all aspects of personality description, namely extro orientation, humanity, due diligence, neuroticity, and openness. Due diligence, that is, whether a person is diligent, orderly and reliable, has always been considered to be associated with healthy behavior. The paper's lead author, Rita Ludwig of the University of Oregon, said they had for the first time locked in one aspect of the personality trait of due diligence: planning.
at the University of Oregon recorded 282 volunteers going to the gym over a 20-week period in 2018 and collected their fitness records for 2017. The volunteers also submitted their own fitness plans and completed self-assessment forms for "planned" characteristics. It found that volunteers who rated themselves higher on "planned" traits were more likely to go to the gym than those who rated themselves lower, with an average of 5.9 more gyms in the fall and 8.5 more in the winter.
, the study provides a valuable reference for a deeper psychological understanding of the effects of personality differences on behavior.
