The team of Professor Xie Jingyuan, Department of Nephrology, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and the team of Professor Yu Zhangsheng, School of Life Science and Technology, Clinical Research Center of School of Medicine, jointly carried out a multicenter study on environmental pollution and the progress of IgA nephropathy - in cooperation with 7 large nephrology centers across the country: Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; Peking University First Hospital; Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital; The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University; The First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province; The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University; Qingdao Municipal Hospital
    .

Luo Chengwen, a doctoral graduate of the School of Life Science and Technology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Ouyang Yan, Department of Nephrology, Ruijin Hospital, and Su Fang, a nephrology teacher of the First Affiliated Hospital of Peking University, are the first authors, and Professor Xie Jingyuan and Professor Yu Zhangsheng are co-corresponding authors
    .

Primary IgA Nephropathy (IgAN) is the world's most common primary glomerululonephritis, PGN, and one of the most important causes of End Stage of Renal Disease (ESRD) in young adults in
    China.

It has been reported that environmental pollution, as the most concerned public health problem, is extremely related to the occurrence and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) to ESRD, bringing about a huge burden on the global economy and medical care
    .

Professor Xie Jingyuan's team has been deeply involved in the IgAN field for a long time, and has established one of the largest groups of IgAN multicenter cohort in China (CRPIGA, ClinicalTrials.

The study was based on a multicenter cohort and included a total of 1,979 patients with primary IgAN (from seven kidney centers nationwide).

Further analysis found that for every 10 μg/m3 increase in the annual mean concentration of PM2.

    The research was supported
by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University-University of Michigan Joint Seed Fund and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Medical and Engineering Interdisciplinary Key Project.
