Under a memorandum of understanding signed by representatives of the governments of Sudan and the United Arab Emirates, Sudan could become home to up to 500 megawatts of new solar power plants
, according to the Ministry of Energy of Sudan.
The UAE side will build and operate these solar farms in Sudan through one of its companies for a period of 20 years, while the Sudanese government has pledged to buy its electricity
at competitive prices for the duration of the contract, the energy ministry said.
The statement also revealed that the solar project will train and hire Sudanese workers during the construction and operation phases, but no other details were released

It is understood that the agreement between the UAE and Sudan comes days after the Abu Dhabi Development Foundation (ADFD) said it had provided Sudan with $556.
6 million in currency, financing and other forms of support

The aid is part of
the UAE's $1.
5 billion grant commitment to Sudan.
In April 2019, the UAE approved $1.
5 billion in aid to Sudan to help the African country support its economic development and financial stability

It is reported that the ongoing economic crisis in Sudan has led to insufficient
investment in infrastructure.
Currently, Sudan still suffers daily power outages, and most of the country is not connected to the grid
