In Northern Ireland, sales must cease on June 1.

These products were once the main seed treatment fungicides for many crops, including peas, beans and sugar beets.

According to the regulations, the only remaining use of metalaxyl seed treatment is the revised authorization of Apron XL for specific mustard crops.
This purpose is limited to sowing and cultivating seeds under the conditions of complete protection, and the period from sowing to planting is not less than 21 days.

Although Syngenta reminded growers at an industry conference earlier this year that the use of metalaxyl may be restricted, a few days before the implementation of this initiative in Northern Ireland, many growers have already made planting plans for this season.
After that, CRD issued the above decision.

According to the respective labeling conditions and legal deadlines of the products, crops grown with seeds treated with metalaxyl products may still be sold this season.

Withdrawing the metalaxyl seed treatment agent, this will bring more burden and pressure to the foliar fungicide program for controlling early disease infection.
For some vegetable growers, the choice of seed treatments is limited, including the use of Maxim 480S products containing active fludioxonil.

The Growers Association may now consider applying for a temporary use of the CRD to temporarily use these withdrawn metalaxyl products.
