The World Bank supports $55 million in renewable energy use in Bangladesh
The World Bank has approved an additional $55 million
for the second Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Development (RERED II) project.
The money will be used to install 1,000 solar-powered irrigation pumps, 30 solar-powered mini-grids and about 4 million stoves
to improve rural areas.
According to the World Bank, the RERED II project is already building 10 solar mini-grids
in remote areas.
At the same time, the World Bank signed a $450 million financing agreement with the government of Bangladesh to improve the transmission network
in the east.
In addition, about 275,000 households and 16,000 agricultural consumers will have access to new electricity connections
thanks to financing.
The World Bank notes that the project will build 13 new substations, which will also help integrate renewable energy into the grid
