Sinochem News, according to World Energy News on December 27: Kawasaki Heavy Industries said that the world’s first liquefied hydrogen carrier left Japan on Friday and loaded the first cargo in Australia.
This pilot project costing 500 million Australian dollars (about 362 million US dollars) was led by Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan and supported by the governments of Japan and Australia
However, due to the impact of the epidemic, the plan was postponed to the second half of the Kawasaki fiscal year from October to March
"It depends on the weather, but the hydrogen carrier'Suiso Frontier' will arrive in Australia in mid-January and is expected to return to Japan around late February," a spokesperson said
It takes about 16 days one way
Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ goal is to replicate its success as a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker producer with hydrogen, which is a key element that contributes to the decarbonization of industries and the global energy transition
In March this year, the Japanese-Australian joint venture started producing hydrogen from lignite in a test project, which aims to prove that liquefied hydrogen can be produced and safely exported to Japan
The Australian partners of the project include Japan Electric Power Development Corporation, Iwatani Corporation, Marubeni Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation and Australia's AGL Energy Co.
