The Total Cost of Sustainment (AISC) metric has been widely used in the mining industry since 2013 because of its comprehensive and transparent appearance
of operating costs.
According to Miningintelligence, Canada's Lundin Mining Company's Chapada mine topped the AISC among global copper mines in the second quarter of this year at $1,411 per tonne
.

In second and third place are the two mines owned by First Quantum Minerals, namely Guelb Moghrein in Mauritania and Las Cruces in Spain, with AISC metrics of $1,918/mt and $2,050/mt respectively, while Vancouver's Zambian copper mining operations also feature in the top ten

Fourth in place are Brazil's Antas copper mine, operated by Oz Minerals, and Atico Mining's El Roble copper mine in Colombia, both with operating costs below $3,000/mt
