The brain, as a central sensory system, regulates at least two types of thirst, both of which cause fluid intake, but have very different preferences for solutes to maintain a stable internal environment. However, the basis of the nerve cells and loops that implement this particular behavior remains unclear.Previous studies have found that activating all the excited neurons in the brain region through photogenetic activation strongly encouraged them to drink water. In order to prove how physiological state and neuron activation are linked under the two thirsts, the paper's first author, Alan Herman Poole, led the optimization of single-cell transcription group sequencing method, by adding the line mycosin D "frozen" transcription group, to minimize the changes in the cell transcription group in the experimental process, to achieve the physiological state of animals and neuron activity mapping.In further research, the team constructed genetically modified mice that most fully labeled activated neurons for functional validation of neuron groups. On the one hand, by photogenetic activation of specific neuron groups, the fluid intake pattern in the corresponding physiological state is re-developed, on the other hand, through chemical genetic suppression of specific neuron groups, the behavior in the corresponding physiological state has been impaired. This study validates the causal relationship between neuron group function and behavior in terms of activation and inhibition."Interestingly, the study found that the brain feels and regulates two types of thirsty neurons, high osmotic pressure and low blood volume, and that the central sensory system exists, with different types of cells mediating different physiological states," said Wang Tongxuan, co-author of the paper and a 2016 undergraduate student at Nanqi University's School of Life Sciences.
