Reporters recently learned from Yunnan University, the university's plant paleo-ecological team in the end of the Second Folding Era in the field of biological extinction research has made important progress, put forward different latitudes of plant geographical regions on the mass extinction event or there are different responses, so can not be a single mechanism to explain the impact of this event on the global ecosystem.
In the history of Earth's evolution over 4.5 billion years, there have been many events of biological extinction, of which the great extinction of the end of the Second Period about 252 million years ago was the largest, resulting in the extinction of more than 95% of marine species and more than 75% of land-like vertebrates in a very short period of time, which has enabled the biological community to complete the transition from paleontical evolution to modern evolutionary biological outlook, which has had a profound impact on the evolution of the biological community.
In recent years, the team of plant paleo-ecology led by Feng Zhuo researcher of Yunnan University has carried out a large number of field investigations and indoor research work on the major scientific issues of "The Great Extinction Event and the Evolution of Land plants at the end of the Second Folding Era". Based on systematic research on more than 30,000 plant fossil specimens from more than 20 geological profiles, combined with sedimentation and multi-formation division, the plant paleo-ecological team found that the highest emergence level of large feathered sheep-toothed flora with very high degrees of difference was found. About 2 meters, there is a single species of herb pine plant unusually rich layer, and the typical plant molecules in the large feather sheep tooth flora completely disappeared, confirming that the large sheep tooth flora in the late evolution of the existence of "rapid" extinction events. It is further confirmed that the tropical rainforest ecosystem, which was once widely distributed on the eastern shore of the Guttis Ocean, has been "suddenly" completely replaced by the "grassy" ecosystem represented by herb pine plants.
Using high-precision strata comparison, the researchers found that the extinction time of large feathered sheep-toothed flora was slightly later than that of the great extinction event at the end of the Bi-Layer Period, and concluded that different latitude plant geographic regions had different responses, patterns and timings to the end-of-2000s extinction events, and that the causes of the phenomenon were likely to be related to plant groups, plant composition, and the complexity of ecosystems. The research results were published in geoscience review, an internationally renowned comprehensive geoscience journal.
