From 0:24 p.m. on December 5, 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government) and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 18 new confirmed cases, of which 17 were imported from abroad (6 in Shanghai, 6 in Fujian, 2 in Guangdong, 1 in Sichuan, 1 in Yunnan, 1 in Shaanxi), 1 case in Tianjin, 1 new death in Tianjin, and 2 new suspected cases were imported from abroad (all in Shanghai).
12 new cases were cured and discharged from hospital on the same day, and 717 close contacts were released from medical observation, with the number of serious cases the same as the previous day.
