Thousands of vaccines were scrapped in Japan, and the freezer failed due to insufficient power supply

According to a report by the Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK), the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan received a report from a medical institution that the institution’s ultra-low temperature freezer used to store the new crown vaccine had malfunctioned, causing up to 1032 doses of vaccine to be scrapped.

According to previous reports, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare stated that on the morning of March 1, the staff of this medical institution discovered that the temperature of the freezer set at minus 80 degrees Celsius had risen to 27 degrees, and there were 1032 shots that could have been administered.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan revealed that the company that provided refrigerated containers to medical institutions launched an investigation on the cause of the accident on March 2.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan has previously informed the medical institutions responsible for the first vaccination to ensure that they are connected to a dedicated power source when using ultra-low temperature freezers.

Japan started its new crown vaccination plan on February 17, and the first batch of vaccinations were about 40,000 medical workers with consent, using the vaccine produced by Pfizer in the United States.
