Serum thyroid globulin (Tg) is used for follow-up in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), but the presence of anti-thyroid globulin antibodies (TgAb) makes Tg measurements unreliableTgAb decreases after a full thyroid ecsomy, and a sustained/upweight tgAb level may indicate a continuation/recurrence of the cancerIn a recent study published in thyroid disease, researchers aimed to determine whether TgAb may be a reliable prognosis for DTCresearchers conducted meta-analysis and systematic evaluationThe researchers conducted a comprehensive literature search of four databases (Medline, Embase, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus) to identify DTC patients with known TgAb states and prognostic outcomesThe researchers used a random effect model to calculate the TgAb state and its ratio associated with the DTC prognosis and the 95% confidence interval (CI)analyzed 34 studies and found that patients with TgAb plus had a higher risk of lymph node metastasis (OR: 1.18; 95% CI: 1.47-2.25) and a continuous/recurrence of cancer (OR: 2.78; 95% CI: 1.55 to 4.98), compared to TgAb-patientsHowever, there were no significant differences in average/median tumor size, risk of thyroid expansion, tumor multiplesandie and cancer mortality between the two groupsWhen comparing TgAb trends, the researchers found that patients with persistent/elevated TgAb levels had a higher risk of continued/recurrence of cancer (OR: 9.90; 95% CI: 4.36-22.50) and cancer mortality (OR: 15.18; 95% CI: 2.99-77) compared to patients with lower TgAb levelsthus, TgAb positive and its level continued/increase are associated with poor Prognosis of DTCThese results show that TgAb can be used as an indicator of follow-up prognosis in DTC patients, especially those with TgAb plus
