BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Astronomers have recently discovered that the star Tiancang V, about 12 light-years away, has four Earth-like planets, two of which are located in the star's livable zone.
tiancang five is located in the constellation Ofsted, the human eye can see, its size, luster and other properties are similar to the sun, is the closest sun-like star to the sun.
scientists discovered signs of the presence of five planets around Tiancang V in 2012, the new study provides a more accurate analysis of at least four planets.
new study, conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom and the University of California, Santa Cruz, confirmed the existence of the four planets by observing the tiny swings of Tiancang V itself.
researchers report in the American Journal of Astronomy that the four planets orbit their parent stars for 20, 49, 162 and 636 days, respectively, and have a mass no more than four times the mass of Earth, the smallest of which is only 1.7 times the mass of Earth.
planets on the periphery of the Earth are 0.5 astronomical units and 1.5 astronomical units, respectively, and are located on the inner and outer edges of the livable zone around Tiancang V.
livable zone refers to the region where the surface temperature of the planet allows liquid water to exist at a moderate distance from the star, and is the target area for people looking for extraterreterreo life.
but Tiancang V has a huge disk of dust, and its planets are bombarded by dense meteorites, which is a disadvantage to life.
because the planets themselves do not glow, exoplanets are often difficult to observe directly.
the gravitational pull of the planet causes the parent star to oscing, which is currently the main means of finding exoplanets, according to the star's spectral changes.
researchers say they have used a new method to remove noise from the data, achieving very high analytical accuracy and approaching the resolution limit of the method.
