    Japan's Toshiba Corporation will invest 20 billion yen in a biomass power plant in Fukuoka Prefecture, planning to increase its renewable energy footprint
    , according to Renewable Energy.

    The planned biomass facility will be built by Sigma Power Ariake Corp, a subsidiary of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions, which will also become the plant's operator
    upon completion.
    Construction work in Omuta City is scheduled to begin next fall, with the aim of putting the plant into operation
    in spring 2022.

    Toshiba said it is working to increase the penetration of its renewable energy business in the market

    It wants to build its integrated aggregator service business and provide energy system stability by optimizing multiple energy sources, such as renewable energy and battery storage, relying on control technologies
    such as virtual power plants.

    Toshiba noted that the proposed investment in biomass capacity will not affect its forecast
    for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2019.
